Finally hit my emergency fund goal after 4 years of nickel and diming it
I live in Austin and it took me from 2021 until last Tuesday to save up $10,000 for emergencies. Every time I'd get close, something would pop up like my car needing new tires or the AC dying in July. My roommate kept telling me to just throw extra cash at it, but man, after rent and groceries there was barely anything left. I started doing this thing where I'd transfer $20 every time I skipped takeout or a coffee run. It felt stupid at first, like pennies in a jar, but those $20s added up way faster than I thought. Now I've got that buffer and I actually slept through the night for the first time in months. Has anyone else had to piece together an emergency fund in small painful chunks like this?
