Dubbed my first anime episode, and I felt like a complete fool

Last week I decided to try voice acting and record a dub for the first episode of an old mecha series from the 90s. I spent about 4 hours syncing my lines to the character's mouth movements, and it came out AWFUL. My timing was off by a full second in some spots, and my voice cracked on the dramatic speech. I learned that those pro voice actors make it look way too easy, and the editing alone is a nightmare. Has anyone else here tried fan dubbing or recording your own lines for a scene? I want to know if I just picked a bad show or if everyone starts out this clumsy.

Been putting up fences for about 15 years now, mostly around here in rural Ohio. For the longest time I'd use my 4-foot level to make sure each post was perfectly plumb, checking both sides before backfilling. Then last spring a big windstorm came through and three sections of a job I did six months earlier were leaning like they were tired. I went back to check and realized the ground had shifted under the posts because I wasn't paying attention to the soil type. Turns out for clay-heavy dirt like we have, you need to dig a wider hole and use gravel at the bottom for drainage, otherwise the posts settle unevenly over time. A oldtimer driving by stopped and pointed out my mistake, said I was leveling to the ground's surface instead of the bedrock below. Now I always test the soil first and adjust my method. Has anyone else run into that issue with clay soil shifting their posts?

I was prepping for Saturday service and overheard this kid Jose telling the dishwasher my onion dice was inconsistent. At first I was pissed, but then I looked at my board and he was right. My brunoise was all over the place size wise, like 3mm to 6mm in one batch. So now I'm slowing down and actually checking each handful before it goes in the pan. Has anyone else had a junior cook call them out on something stupid that ended up being a good thing?

The day a hornets nest fell on me in Greenville

I was trimming a huge dead limb off a silver maple last Thursday in Greenville. About halfway through my cut, a whole hornets nest the size of a basketball came crashing down with the branch and landed right at my feet. I froze for a second then sprinted down the street while they got all over my shirt. Has anyone else had a close call like that with pests hiding in a tree?

I started grabbing old postcards at flea markets maybe 3 years ago, just because I liked the old handwriting and weird stamps. Last month I was sorting through a box I got from an estate sale in a little town called Mineral, Virginia, and I noticed something. The postcards from the 1910s all talked about train schedules and who was visiting from the city, but by the 1950s they were all about highways and motels. It hit me that these cards basically document when cars killed the railroad culture in these places. There is one card from 1923 that shows a main street with a horse and buggy, and then another from 1961 shows the exact same street but with a gas station and a diner. I kinda feel like I am holding a time capsule for towns that nobody writes about anymore. Has anyone else noticed their collection accidentally showing a bigger story about how America changed?

Had a building manager chew me out over a door interface adjustment last week

I was adjusting the door operator on a Schindler at a 12 story office park and this guy comes running over yelling that I'm gonna mess up the door timing for the whole lobby. He said I should always check the door track tension first before touching the controller settings. I was pissed but honestly he was right, tracked out fine after I lubed up the rollers instead. Has anyone else had a know-it-all building guy actually save you time?
