inMy whole week got turned around by a random act of kindness at the grocery store
Seriously, it's about resetting your brain.

inShoutout to the guy who swore by using a hairdryer on a swollen laptop battery
My buddy's old phone battery swelled up bad last year. He saw some random forum post about putting it in the freezer for a few minutes, which sounds like a great way to ruin everything. He was desperate though, and it actually made the case pop open easier so he could swap the battery. Makes you wonder how many of these crazy ideas start from someone just trying anything.

inI finally switched from a standard boning knife to a curved breaking knife for beef primals
Honestly, I've never gotten the hype around curved blades for that job. My old straight boning knife lets me feel exactly where the tip is, which is way more important for me when I'm working around the chine bone. That long curve just feels like it wants to skip out of the cut if you hit a tough bit of connective tissue.

inShowerthought: I gave a free haircut to a regular and it backfired
Ugh, that's so frustrating! I think the advice you heard missed a key point. A freebie should be a rare thank you, not a regular thing. Setting that expectation from the start, like saying "this one's on me," makes it clear it's a one-time gift.

inThis customer at my shop in Asheville asked for a 'tree bark roast'
Reminds me of a story my friend told me. A woman came into her cafe and asked for a coffee that tasted like "old books and regret." She was completely serious, staring right at her. My friend was stumped for a minute. She ended up mixing a tiny bit of cocoa powder into a very dark roast. The customer took a sip, got this sad little smile, and said it was exactly right.
