Pro tip: a guy in line at Aldi said he rounds every bill up to the next $5 and I gave it a try

Stood behind him at the Aldi on 8th last Tuesday and he told the cashier to keep the change on a $23.40 order. On the way out he explained he treats every total like it's the next $5 bill and the extra coins go in a jar. I started doing it 3 weeks ago and my jar already has $41 in it, which is more than I ever saved trying to track every penny in a spreadsheet. Funny how I used to think you needed an app for this. Does rounding up work better for anyone else than strict tracking did?
