Last Saturday I was touching up the baseboards in my bedroom with a $8 sample pot of eggshell paint and knocked the whole thing over. Before I could panic, I grabbed the frayed quilt she gave me 20 years ago and soaked up most of it, turns out old cotton works better than paper towels. Anyone else keep a sacrificial blanket around for disasters like this?
Last week my Nana visited my new apartment and stared at my all-gray living room for a solid minute before saying, 'Honey, this looks like a waiting room for a dentist who gave up.' Then she handed me a $7 thrift store lampshade with orange and mustard stripes and told me to just put it on my floor lamp. I laughed, but once I switched it on that warm glow made the whole room feel like a hug instead of a file cabinet. I ended up adding a rust throw pillow and a cream blanket from Target for about $25 total, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a relative casually destroy your decor confidence only to fix it with one weird object? What's the cheapest thing you've added that completely changed your room's vibe?
