My neighbor walked over while I was pressure washing my driveway and pointed out I was holding the wand wrong

I had been spraying at a steep angle for 3 years and leaving dirt stripes. He showed me to keep it flat and move slower and suddenly my concrete actually looks clean. Has anyone else had a random stranger give you a tip that made you feel like an idiot?

Sign the wifi agreement before you order - learned this the hard way at Blue Bottle

Ngl I walked into this Blue Bottle in Austin last Tuesday thinking I could just grab a quick coffee and get some work done. Took me 20 minutes to actually get through the ordering screen because their app forced me to accept a 3 page terms of service before I could even add a drink to my cart. Then the barista told me the same thing happens on their in store tablet if you try to pay with a card. Has anyone else run into these over the top checkout flows that make a simple coffee run take half an hour?

Rant: Found out my buddy's coin collection was worth 3 times mine

I was at a diner last Saturday and ran into this old guy named Jerry who collects silver dollars. He casually mentioned he's got a 1921 Peace Dollar that graded MS65 and I was like, wait, mine's just sitting in a flip. He told me he spends 15 minutes a week checking grading guides online and getting second opinions at shows. That hit different because I've been buying coins for 2 years and never once looked up the actual grade of anything. Now I'm worried I've overpaid for junk and undersold some good stuff. Has anyone else realized they've been storing valuable coins wrong or missing out on grading?

Ngl I thought torque sticks were a gimmick until a wheel came off on the freeway

Yeah so I had this 737 come through last month, did the usual lug nut torque by feel like I been doing for 8 years. Customer calls back three days later saying he heard a clunk on I-5 near Sacramento. Wheel almost separated. Now I use the sticks every time. Anyone else have a close call that changed your routine?

Changed my mind about learning Brass Birmingham after a bad game night

I was at Dave's place last Saturday for our monthly group, and we tried to play Brass Birmingham for the first time. I totally bombed my first two turns because I didn't understand the network building, and I ended up with like 12 points while everyone else had 40. That frustration made me watch a 20 minute tutorial from a guy in Manchester, and now I get why the strategy matters so much. Has anyone else had a game click after a rough first play?

Picked a plastic crock over glass for my first sauerkraut batch

I had to choose between a 5-liter Harsch crock and a big mason jar setup for fermenting cabbage, and I went with the plastic because I was scared of breakage. Three weeks in, the kraut came out great but I noticed a faint plastic smell that made me question my choice. Has anyone else dealt with weird odors from plastic fermenters, or am I just being paranoid?

I finally tried the 'hitch step' technique on a big oak in Piedmont Park

Was out at Piedmont Park last week and this old oak had a nasty co-dominant stem with included bark. I did a small cut on the back side first, then stepped the notch over about 6 inches, and it pulled the hinge perfectly without any barber chair. Has anyone else used this for tricky leaners with tight quarters?

Hot take: spending $60 on a writing prompt book was a total waste

Everyone on here keeps recommending those prompt collections with the fancy covers but I grabbed one at Barnes last month and it was just 200 variations of 'write about a locked door.' I flipped through the whole thing in 15 minutes and didnt find a single unique idea. The free prompts on this subreddit are way better than anything I got from that book. Anybody else feel like paid prompt resources are overhyped?

Shoutout to the cashier who told me generative AI isn't always the answer

I was buying a coffee last Tuesday and the cashier mentioned they use an older chatbot for their inventory, not the flashy new models. Said the simpler tool just works better for their small shop. Has anyone else found that older AI sometimes beats the new stuff for specific tasks?

The old CompTIA A+ exam from 2005 still haunts me sometimes

I was prepping for my first IT job at a repair shop in Akron back in 2005 and the A+ exam had all these questions about IRQ settings and jumper pins on hard drives. That test was pure memorization and I still can't look at a floppy drive without twitching. Has anyone else noticed how much easier the certs are now compared to back then?
