inGot a 'deal' on some reclaimed railroad spikes from a yard sale in Boise
The spark test is your best bet for unknown steel, just grind a corner and watch the color and length of the sparks.

inMy comic shop guy in Phoenix called me out for only buying number one issues
Ugh, been there. @patricialee is right, it's about the game not the trophy. Grab a full arc of something cheap next time, you'll see the difference.

inFinally got that stubborn autopilot fault on a King Air to clear
Remember reading about a guy who chased a fuel gauge problem for weeks on a Seneca... turned out a spider had built a nest in the vent line for the tank, messing with the pressure. Makes you wonder what else is out there just waiting to be a headache. I bet @the_joseph has seen some weird ones like that too. It's crazy how the smallest thing, totally unrelated to the actual part, can cause such a big deal. Always feels like a win when you finally spot it though.

inJust had a close call with a cracked anvil at the Midwest Blacksmiths meet last month
My old anvil had a crack I found with a wire brush, not chalk. I felt pretty dumb for missing it right under the horn. Guess I need better eyes or a smarter buddy.

inOur group read a book with a really unlikeable main character last month
Honestly, book clubs are just fancy FIGHT clubs with snacks. We nearly had a mutiny over some whiny Victorian guy last year. People were ready to throw the book out the window. If you need to LIKE every character, just read a phone book, it's full of nice, quiet people. The messy ones make for a better argument, and that's half the fun.
