inThe elevator button thing, I was so wrong about it
The maintenance guy gave you one story about one old elevator, that doesn't make button mashing ok everywhere. I worked in a building where the panel was maybe 2 years old and people still jabbed it 5 times like it owed them money. Here's the thing, pressing it more doesn't make it come faster, it just makes the wait feel more annoying for the rest of us in the lobby. Not saying you're a hypocrite, but one broken sensor at a dentist office doesn't really back up the whole habit. I'd still side eye someone going at it in a normal building.

inVent: the bike rack outside the library on 5th has been eating derailleurs all winter
There was a post on the local cycling Facebook group about this exact rack a few weeks ago, someone mapped out which hoops are bent and it's like half of them. The city apparently knows but tickets for repairs take forever, which is why people just keep bending them back and making it worse. Worth cross posting your bent hanger count there so there's a record, since one person complaining is easy to ignore but a whole list of wrecked bikes is not.
