Watched a buddy go through the same thing last winter with his Outback. He grabbed the cheap open box, saved himself $800, felt like a genius for about a month. Then a freak hail storm rolled through and dinged up everything he had strapped up there, skis, a cooler, all of it. The enclosed box he almost bought would've laughed that storm off. He still runs the open one but now he checks the radar like a pilot before every trip. Cheap works fine until the weather decides it doesn't.
