Just realized the tolerance on my old 2005 Haas was tighter than the 2021 machine we bought to replace it
Found the original inspection sheet in the cabinet last week showing 0.0003 inch repeatability on the old mill, while the new one is rated at 0.0005, and now I am wondering if anyone else has seen older iron hold tighter numbers than the shiny stuff.
That 0.0003 sheet is just a number on paper from one test at one temp with one guy running it. A spec like 0.0005 on a new machine is the worst case they promise across the whole build, so it is not really a fair head to head. Old iron got babied and rebuilt maybe, and the sheet you found was probably the best day it ever had. Modern machines get checked way harder too, so a looser rating does not mean it cuts worse parts.
