I finally figured out why my snake plant was dying after 6 months

I kept it in my bathroom in Portland for that whole time and it started turning yellow at the tips... turns out I was watering it way too much cause the humidity kept the soil wet. Anyone else kill a plant by being too nice to it?

The debate on LED masks - are they really worth the price tag?

I've been seeing estheticians in my area charging $100 extra per session for LED therapy, but I tested a $30 at-home mask from Amazon against my clinic's $600 one. After 3 weeks on my own face (left side with the cheap one, right side with the pro model), I noticed zero difference in redness or fine lines. A client said her derm told her the cheaper masks lack power, but aren't the wavelengths all the same in the end? Anyone else run a side-by-side test and see different results?

Shoutout to my neighbor who uses liquid fertilizer over granular

I've been doing granular fertilizer on my roses for like 3 years in Austin. My neighbor Carol uses the liquid stuff you mix in a hose sprayer. I finally tried her method last month and my blooms are way bigger and more even. The granular always left spots where it didn't dissolve right. Anybody else notice a big difference between the two?

Switched from cable dredge to hydraulic after 15 years on the Mississippi

Back in 2008, I was running a small cable dredge near Baton Rouge, working on the river bends. I always thought hydraulic was too fancy and expensive for what we needed. Then around 2016, we got a contract that needed way more precision in soft silt, and the cable kept snagging and breaking. I switched to a used 12-inch hydraulic unit from a guy in New Orleans, and it cut my maintenance time by half. The pump still gives me fits every now and then, but the control is night and day. Has anyone else made that jump and found a good way to tune the suction for mixed sand and clay?

Knew I was bad at fishing in Stardew but didn't realize how bad until I checked my stats

I popped open the achievement tracker last night after about 60 hours in my current farm and saw I had only caught like 12 different fish total. I thought I was doing okay just selling whatever I accidentally snagged, but the game literally tracks how many of each you've caught. Turns out I've spent most of my time ignoring the ocean and just farming parsnips. Has anyone else completely ignored a whole game mechanic for that long and then felt silly when they noticed?

Had a talk with a bus driver that made me completely change my morning route

I've been taking the 7:15 AM bus for like 2 years now, always hating how packed it gets. Last week the driver actually recognized me and said 'you know the 6:45 runs half empty and gets you downtown 10 minutes faster.' I just assumed the earlier one would be worse but I tried it Monday and he was right. There's only like 12 people on it and I get a seat every time. Now I'm wondering what else I've been doing wrong just out of habit. Has anyone else had a stranger just casually drop wisdom like that?

Tried reflowing a GPU with a heat gun instead of an oven

I had this old Radeon card that kept artifacting, so I figured I'd try the heat gun method everyone swears by instead of my usual oven trick. Set it to 350°F and hit it for about 4 minutes, but now the thing won't even power up at all - just dead. Anybody else have a heat gun reflow go completely sideways on them?

Got roasted in a Stardew Valley forum for planting blueberries too early in year 1

Some user told me I was wasting my time because blueberries take 13 days to mature and you only get like 5 harvests before fall. I was just excited about having money for a coop, but they broke it down with math and everything. Switched to planting 40 parsnips instead and ended up buying a chicken by mid summer. Has anyone else had their whole farm strategy wrecked by a stranger with a spreadsheet?

The barista at Brooklyn Grind remembered my order after I visited twice in one week

I went to this spot on 5th Avenue three times last week for their pour-over, and on the third day the guy at the counter just nodded and started brewing my usual before I even spoke. Has anyone else had a coffee shop worker pull that off and make your whole day feel special?

Just found out my dog's leash is basically a neck hazard

Was reading a vet blog last night. They studied 500 dog walkers. 1 in 4 used a leash that was too short. That collar-on-neck pressure? Can cause thyroid damage over time. My retractable leash was on the list of bad ones. Switched to a 6 foot flat leash today. My pup already walks calmer. Anyone else check their leash length after seeing something like this?
