Passed on a $2 yard sale hardback for a $1 paperback, and I'm still mad about which one I finished
Two summers back I hit a yard sale in Boise and had $3 in my pocket. My choices were a $2 hardback copy of Lonesome Dove with a cracked spine or a $1 beat up paperback of The Stand. I went cheap and grabbed The Stand, and three weeks later I was still stuck around page 200 while my buddy blew through the Lonesome Dove copy in four days and would not stop quoting it at me. Turns out I don't do slow burn horror, I do cattle drives. Anybody else here judge a swap book by the cover price and get burned by their own cheap streak?
