Spent $38 on a used Park Tool wheel truing stand and it paid for itself in a month
I was lacing wheels on my kitchen table with zip ties and a bent spoke as a gauge, and my tension was all over the place. Dropped $38 on a beat up Park Tool stand from a guy in Denver and my wheels finally stopped going out of true after a couple rides. Any of you still truing by feel or is the stand just something everyone eventually breaks down and buys?
tension was all over the place" man that hits home. i built my first set on the floor of my garage using the frame as the stand and a old brake pad as the feeler. got them "true enough" and then went out and taco'd the rear on a curb drop two weeks later. my roommate at the time was a shop guy and he just laughed and handed me his stand. funny thing is the stand didn't fix my hands, i still over-tensioned for months until he showed me the squeeze test with two spokes. $38 is a steal though, those things are tanks.
