TIL a client can't just 'pay you later' if you didn't agree first

Oh the old "check is in the mail" routine, a tale as old as time (or at least as old as freelancing). It's basically the professional version of "my dog ate my homework." Getting that deposit upfront is the only way to separate the serious folks from the professional daydreamers. Smart move locking down the final files until the balance is paid, that's the real power move right there. Saves you from having to send those awkward "so... about that invoice..." emails for the tenth time.

Am I the only one who had their whole anime watchlist ruined by a single spoiler?

That Chainsaw Man spoiler would ruin my whole week.

My old truck's heater gave out in a snowstorm on I-80 last winter

That's a solid move, keeping a sleeping bag ready. I got caught in a white-out on I-80 a few years back and had to just sit there for hours with the heat on, watching the gas gauge drop. It was a real wake-up call. Now I've got one of those foil emergency blankets and some granola bars stuffed in the glove box. Makes you feel a bit less helpless when the weather turns nasty.

Talked to a friend who runs a bakery about hiring help

Man, that's so true. I read about a food truck owner who was a one man show. He tracked how many people walked away from his window because the line was too slow. He was losing like fifteen sales a day just from people giving up. That's pure profit he was too busy to even see.

Hit 500 hours on a single engine teardown and the paperwork still wasn't done

Our last Cessna 172 annual took three days just for the digital logbook.
