I finally trained my beagle to stop pulling, and the leash snapped on day 4
Been working with my beagle, Gus, on loose leash walking since late March, and it started to click right around the 4th week. Then last Tuesday, half a block from the corner of Maple and 8th here in Springfield, the old nylon leash just popped at the clip. Gus took off straight for a squirrel and I had to chase him through two front yards. Anyone have a leash that has held up past a year of a stubborn 40 pound dog?
That clip popping at Maple and 8th is my worst nightmare, and of course it was a squirrel. My neighbor's lab did the same thing on a nylon leash last summer and she ended up in some lady's koi pond. Four weeks of training down the drain in ten seconds is brutal, but Gus still learned it, so the work isn't gone. I've had good luck with a leather leash and a brass clip, the cheap nylon ones just dry out and rot after a couple seasons. Hang in there and give Gus a scratch for me.
