I just read that the average wedding dress uses about 7 yards of fabric
Honestly, I was looking up some stuff for a bridal collection idea and found that fact on a fabric supplier's blog. Tbh, it really surprised me because I always thought it was way more, like 10 or 12 yards for those big gowns. Ngl, it got me thinking about waste in formal wear design. On one side, using less material could be a cool challenge and maybe make dresses cheaper and lighter. But then, would you lose that dramatic, fancy look people want for their big day? I'm sketching some ideas that try to keep the volume with clever cutting, maybe using layered tulle or something. Has anyone else tried designing a statement dress with a tight fabric budget? What tricks did you use?
