Just found out my side hustle paid way more than my full time job last month

I've been running a small moving business on weekends for the last two years, and last month I actually sat down and did the math on earnings. My regular 9 to 5 brought in $3,200 after taxes, but my weekend moving gig surprised me with $4,100. That's $900 more for less hours of work, but with way more physical strain and zero benefits. It's got me thinking about whether I should lean harder into the moving company or play it safe with the steady paycheck. The moving work is inconsistent and some weeks I get nothing, while other weeks I'm drowning in bookings. Has anyone else here had a side hustle that outperformed their main job? How did you decide which path to take?

Finally realized why my shop PC kept crashing after 2 years of fighting it

Last week I was troubleshooting a customer's machine and it hit me that my own rig had the same issue. For 2 years I was swapping RAM and reinstalling drivers to fix random freezes. Turned out it was a bad solder joint on the motherboard under the CPU socket. I used a multimeter to trace it and found a cold joint on a tiny capacitor. Has anyone else spent months chasing a ghost issue only to find it was hardware the whole time?

PSA: Nearly got my business accounts cleaned out at a coffee shop in Austin last week

I was at a place called Brew & Bytes on South Congress, connected to their free WiFi to check some estimates, and within 20 minutes my phone started showing weird login alerts from my bank. Turns out someone was running a fake hotspot that looked legit, and I almost typed my password into a phishing page that popped up. How do you guys verify a public WiFi network is actually the real one before you hop on?

The old gravel road I took to work is now a 4 lane highway

I started driving this route back in 2012 when it was just a narrow gravel strip through some farmland outside of Raleigh, took me 45 minutes to go 12 miles. Over the last decade they paved it, added lights, and now it's this huge divided road with strip malls everywhere and my commute dropped to 20 minutes. Has anyone else watched their quiet backroad turn into a mini highway?

Just found out my HTML was full of accessibility errors this whole time

I ran my little portfolio site through a free checker called WAVE last night on a whim. Turns out I was missing alt text on like 8 images and had bad heading order the whole time. Took me maybe 20 minutes to fix everything but man, I felt dumb for not checking sooner. Has anyone else found hidden issues with their first projects using those free tools?

Shoutout to the random thunderstorm that saved my Saturday night

I had plans to hit up this big concert at Red Rocks with my buddy Mark, but it got canceled like 2 hours before doors due to lightning in the area. On one hand, I was so bummed cause I paid $75 for the ticket and was ready to see the band. But on the other, we ended up grabbing cheap tacos at this hole-in-the-wall spot in Denver and honestly that night was way more chill and fun. Which side do you lean more towards mad about the cancel or glad you got something better out of it?

Hit 50 shop drawings in one week last month and felt like a machine

I usually average around 30 to 35 structural shop drawings a week if things are going smooth. But last month I had a rush job for a school project in Phoenix and somehow knocked out 50 in five days. I wasn't cutting corners either, just had a good rhythm going with my CAD settings and templates. It surprised me because I usually hit a wall around 40 and start making dumb mistakes. Has anyone else had a week where you just crushed your personal best without really trying?

For three months, I sent our weekly newsletter with two different subject line styles. One was just the blog post title, like 'Q3 Marketing Trends'. The other asked a direct question, like 'Are you missing these Q3 marketing trends?'. The question style got 40% more opens every single week. I was sure our readers wanted simple info, but they actually respond way better to being asked something. Has anyone else seen a big jump from switching up their email approach?

I walked past this weird rock pile for months thinking it was just trash

There's a trail near my house with this pile of flat stones stacked in a little tower, maybe two feet high. I saw it every walk for like six months and figured some kids made a mess or it was just random. Then last week, I saw an older guy carefully adding a new stone to it. I stopped and asked him about it, and he said it's a trail marker and a kind of wish stone thing people have kept up for over ten years. He showed me some stones with tiny paintings on them. I felt pretty dumb for writing it off. It's actually a cool little piece of local history I was ignoring. Have you ever found something on a walk that you totally misjudged at first?
