I thought 'landlord insurance' was a scam for nomads until my Airbnb host in Medellin saved me $800
I always skipped that extra $15 a month for nomad insurance stuff because it felt like a money grab, but my host in Medellin insisted I needed it after my laptop got swiped from a cafe in El Poblado. She pulled up her own claim from a few years back and it covered her whole replacement in like 10 days, no runaround. I filed mine that night and got $800 back on a $900 laptop, minus the $100 deductible. Honestly I still think some of these plans are junk, but this one actually paid out. Has anyone found a plan that covers gear theft without the usual hoops?
Did you end up sticking with the same company or did you shop around after that? My camera got lifted in Lisbon last year and I was out the whole thing because I never got the coverage, still kicking myself over it. Glad your host pushed you into it, feels like those little pushes are the only reason any of us actually sign up for this stuff.
