Those community boards work because they're built on trust, not just convenience. People need to believe their lost dog flyer won't get torn down or that a stranger will actually call about their keys. That barista knowing everyone by name is what makes the whole system tick. Once that trust is gone, you just have four walls and a coffee machine. Rebuilding it is way harder than putting up a corkboard.

Reminds me of fixing my old radio with my dad. We'd hunt for a single burnt-out resistor at a hobby shop. Now you just toss the whole circuit board. Makes you wonder what skills we've lost by not having to understand how things work anymore.

Wow, that's a huge difference! We tried something similar by swapping a long ebook form for a quick "score your setup" checklist tool. Our form conversions were always terrible, like 1.5%, but the checklist got people actually doing something and it jumped to around 9%. It just felt less like a transaction.
