Thought breathing exercises were new age nonsense until my panic attack at LaGuardia
Missed my connection home to Detroit, stranded for 6 hours. Heart started racing, hands went numb, thought I was dying. Random guy next to me told me to breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 7, out for 8. Did it for like 5 minutes and the worst of it passed. I've made fun of my sister's meditation app for 2 years. Felt stupid but it worked. Anyone else have a similar moment where they had to eat their words about this stuff?
I was the same way, told my wife her yoga breathing stuff was a waste of time for years. Then I got stuck in a middle seat next to a crying baby on a 5 hour flight and thought I was gonna lose my mind, so I tried that 4-7-8 thing just to have something to do. Weirdest part is it actually calmed me down and I had to tell her about it later, which she loved way too much. So yeah, the jokes come back to bite you.
