She said it right as she walked in for her facial, and I was using my standard lavender diffuser blend. I asked what her grandma's house smelled like specifically, and she said 'clean linen and a little bit of rose.' I switched to a linen and white tea oil mix for her next visit, and she said it completely changed how relaxed she felt. Has anyone else had a client's scent memory totally shift your approach to the treatment room?

I finally tried a new way to price wedding flowers after a tough job in Chicago

Last week, I did a big wedding in Chicago with a $5,000 flower budget. The bride wanted a huge arch and centerpieces with specific, out-of-season peonies. I priced it the old way, just marking up my costs, and barely made any money after all the extra hours and rush shipping. But my friend, who has a shop in Milwaukee, says she only does flat project fees now, which covers her time no matter what. She says it's fairer, but I worry clients will think the price is too high upfront. Has anyone else switched their pricing model and had it work out?

Showerthought: I keep seeing startups here in Toronto mix up their payment system rules.

For the last three months, I've been looking at how new apps handle their first big user payout. A lot of them set the auto-payout limit way too high, like $500, thinking it saves fees. I saw one team get stuck because their first ten users had money locked up for weeks. We just launched our beta and set ours at $50 after talking to a mentor from Wealthsimple. It got our first users paid out in two days, not two weeks. Has anyone else tweaked a small rule like this and seen a big change in early trust?

Vent: My drawer box glue-up method was a mess for years

I was building a set of kitchen drawers for a client in Portland, using my usual method of glue and brad nails. The boxes always felt a bit off, never perfectly square. Last month, I watched a video from a guy named Mike Pekovich where he just used glue and a few clamps, no nails at all. Tried it on a test box with some 1/2" Baltic birch. The joint was way tighter and the square was dead on. How do you guys clamp your drawer boxes without them slipping?

Update: My dog decided my monthly log was a chew toy yesterday

I left my bullet journal open on the couch while I grabbed a drink. My puppy jumped up and gnawed on the corner of the page with my April plans. The teeth marks ripped right through my 'garden planting' task list. But it gave me a funny story to doodle around, and now that spread has more character than any other.
