Rant: I was cutting all my flower stems straight across for years until a wedding client asked why her bouquet died so fast

I had a huge wedding order in Boise last weekend, and the bride called me two days later saying her bouquet was already wilting. I was so confused because I used fresh stock and conditioned everything. When I asked her how she was caring for it, she said she was changing the water daily and recutting the stems like I told her. I asked her to send a picture, and I saw it. She had snipped them straight across with scissors, just like I always did. A quick google search told me that a straight cut can seal against the vase bottom and you NEED a sharp angled cut for water uptake. I felt like such a fool. Has anyone else had a basic technique they were just plain wrong about for a long time?

Oh my god, the single tile thing is so real. I had a guy bring in a chipped piece of linoleum from his kitchen floor, like a 2-inch scrap, and got mad when we couldn't magic up a full box from 1985. The stuff just doesn't exist anymore!

Got schooled by a 70-year-old at the Tacoma tool library on sharpening chisels

Oh man, that's the best! A guy at the hardware store once saw me struggling to cut a pipe. He took my hacksaw, showed me how to really lock my wrist and use my whole arm, not just my hand. The difference was instant. Those little bits of free wisdom are the best part of any hobby.

PSA: I spent $400 on a 'universal' washer diagnostic tool that was basically useless

Totally agree. I got a pop-up once saying my drive was corrupted and to call a number. Googled it and it was a known virus. Those sites just want to scare you into paying for fake support. A quick search usually finds the real fix on a legit forum. Saves so much time and money.
