Appreciation post: my Tuesday game group has run for 6 years in the same basement
Six years ago this month I joined a board game group that met in a guy's basement in Grand Rapids, and we still meet every Tuesday at 7 sharp. Back then we were 4 people playing Catan and drinking cheap beer, and one guy brought a folding table from his garage because the basement only had one. These days we're 9 regulars and somebody always brings snacks, and the games got a lot heavier, but the folding table is still there and it's still wobbly in one corner. What gets me is how the group outlasted three moves, two babies, and one guy switching to a night shift job for a year. Your mileage may vary, but finding a group that just keeps showing up on the same night is rarer than any out of print game. How did your regular group start, and did it ever almost fall apart?
Does the wobbly corner count as a tenth regular at this point? Ours almost died when the host got married and his wife "didn't get" why six grown men needed a standing Tuesday.
