I saw a demo at the MIT Media Lab that flipped my view on AI in music

They had an AI listen to a violinist and generate a real-time cello harmony, and it wasn't just copying. It was actually improvising new melodies based on the player's emotion. Has anyone else seen AI used for live performance like that?

I keep hearing techs say they don't need to carry a multimeter anymore

I saw a real change in my own work about 3 years ago. I was getting by with just a voltage sniffer and a parts cannon approach. Then I had a string of 5 calls in a row for a weird fridge issue where the sniffer lied to me. Pulled out my old Fluke 117 and found a floating neutral on the board that was giving false readings. That week cost me about $400 in wasted parts and callbacks. Now I won't even open the truck without it. Are we really okay with ditching the most basic tool for guessing? What are you guys using to actually verify voltage under load?

PSA: Our club's debate about 'The Road' got way too heated last Tuesday when Mark said he'd 'gladly take the cart' from the man in the book.

That single comment from Mark about Cormac McCarthy's novel basically split our 12-person group into two arguing camps for the entire 2-hour meeting, and now we're scrambling to pick a lighter book for next month... has anyone else had a debate derail a meeting this badly?

Had to choose between a standard NDA and a more detailed one for a new supplier

I was setting up a deal with a parts supplier in Ohio and my lawyer gave me two choices. I could use a simple one page NDA or a longer one with specific rules about what info is secret. I picked the longer one because it listed exact things like our client list and pricing model. It took about a week to get it signed, but last month they tried to share our pricing with another company. Because the NDA was so clear, we sent a letter and they stopped right away. Has anyone else had a supplier push the line on a basic agreement?

Heads up about that cheap birdseed mix from the grocery store

I just read a study from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that found some budget mixes are over 50% filler like milo and wheat, which a lot of common backyard birds just won't eat. I checked my own bag and sure enough, the ground under my feeder was covered in wasted junk. Has anyone found a good, affordable brand that doesn't have all that filler?

I chose a full bleach out over a color melt for a client's big change

My client in Springfield wanted to go from dark brown to platinum, and everyone at the salon said to do a slow color melt to keep it healthy. I went with a full bleach out in one session with Olaplex, and her hair is actually in great shape after 4 weeks. Does anyone think a single process can be better than a slow change sometimes?

Tried a new way to clean my Kirby Morgan helmet lens in cold water.

Used a drop of baby shampoo on a microfiber cloth up in Ketchikan last week. It left a weird film that made everything look blurry. Anyone know a better trick for cold water cleaning?

I finally went with a local Calgary payment processor over Stripe for our beta

Everyone said to just use Stripe for our app's checkout, but their Canadian settlement times were a problem for our cash flow. We picked a smaller firm called NorthBridge Pay, and it cut our hold time from 5 business days to 2. Has anyone else gone against the grain on a core tech choice like this?
