Heard a guy on the bus say he never looks at his phone during his ride

He was telling his friend it's the only quiet time he gets all day. It made me think, when did we all decide our commutes had to be filled with scrolling? Has anyone else tried leaving their phone in their bag?

Honestly, that guy's onto something. I forced myself to do it last week. Just watched the city go by for twenty minutes. Saw a kid trying to fly a kite in a parking lot, noticed a coffee shop I never knew was there. Felt weird at first, but my brain felt quieter when I got off. We're missing the whole world scrolling past it.

Guy on the bus is living in 2004. He's probably staring out the window at a billboard for a flip phone. I tried leaving mine in my bag once, but my hands just started twitching. Ended up counting how many people had the exact same phone case as me. It was seven.

Wasn't the big flip phone era more like 2002? I remember by 2004, everyone I knew had those little candy bar phones with color screens. The Razr came out that year and felt so futuristic. It's funny how a few years changes the whole memory.
