inI finally saw the point of the weird statue in the town square
The old water fountain in Grant Plaza has a ring of tiles with what looked like random chips and cracks. Turns out, if you stand on the north side at noon during the summer solstice, the shadows line up with those marks to show the exact date the plaza was dedicated. It's a hidden sundial. Most public art gets ruined when people only look at it one way, in the middle of the day. That artist knew we needed to be forced to see things at a specific time to get the full story.

inA client's reaction in my Dallas studio made me stop pushing peels
My friend Sarah runs a small salon in Austin. A client told her she hated the strong mint smell in everything, it gave her headaches. Sarah swapped to unscented options for her and now keeps a scent free menu. That one complaint changed her whole product lineup.

inWhy does nobody talk about the cost of a proper dust collection system?
I get that, but for me the shop vac is part of the rhythm. The short break to empty it can actually help me spot a mistake or think through the next step.
