Shoutout to the cashier who told me my dog was about to eat a poisonous mushroom

Was at Home Depot last Saturday with my golden retriever. This older cashier named Frank stopped me and pointed at some mushrooms growing near the garden section. He said "your pup is gonna grab one of those in 2 seconds." I looked down and sure enough she was sniffing them. Told me they were death caps or something similar and a bite could shut down her liver. I never even noticed them. Has anyone else had random strangers save them from a mistake like that?

Switched from YouTube tutorials to official docs and wow what a difference

Spent 3 weeks on a Python project using random video tutorials. Kept getting stuck on weird errors. Finally opened the official Python docs. Everything made sense in 2 days. The docs explained the logic, not just copy-paste steps. Has anyone else found official docs easier than videos?

Tried leaving grocery carts in the corral for a week and now I judge everyone who doesn't

After watching three carts roll into cars in the Target parking lot on Tuesday, I decided to stop being lazy about it, and now I get irrationally annoyed at the people who leave theirs two feet from the corral.

Saw a guy at the grocery store return a half-eaten watermelon for a refund

Dude was dead serious too. Told the cashier it was 'underripe' but like a third of it was gone. I worked retail for 4 years back in the 2010s and I still don't get how people have the nerve to do that. Has anyone else seen someone pull a ridiculous return like that?

I was a paper blueprint guy until that basement job

I spent $120 on a basic tablet and Procore subscription just to try it out. I figured nothing beats a physical set of prints for reading on site. Then we had a complex renovation in Alexandria where the architect sent three revisions in one week. Trying to mark up paper copies that fast was a nightmare. The tablet let me pull up the latest version instantly and send redlines back in 10 minutes. Saved me from a costly framing error that would have set us back a week. I hit 1,000 service calls without a callback and it felt weird

I hit exactly 1,000 service calls last week without any callback for a mistake on my end. I keep a little notebook where I track every job and note if I had to go back for anything I missed. When I counted up and saw 1,000 straight, I actually had to double check because it didn't seem right. I mean, I've been doing this for about 7 years now and I definitely had my share of screw ups early on. Most of my calls are just routine maintenance on Otis elevators in office buildings downtown, so it's not like I'm doing crazy complex work. But still, 1,000 feels like a good milestone even if nobody else cares. Has anyone else kept track of their numbers like this or am I just weird about it?

Paid off my car loan 18 months early by packing lunch

I was dumping like $50 a week on fast food near my job in Phoenix. Started bringing leftovers and a sandwich every day instead. That saved me about $200 a month which I put straight onto my car principal. Just made my final payment yesterday and the title is in my hand now. Anyone else get a boost from cutting out a daily habit?
