Finally gave that moisture meter a real try after 5 years of guessing

I always figured I could tell if a concrete slab was dry enough just by feel, but last month I got burned on a basement job in Cincinnati when the carpet started bubbling after 3 weeks. Broke down and bought a decent pinless meter, and now I'm checking every single job before I even unroll the pad. Has anyone else found an installation problem that actually convinced them to change their whole prep routine?

@dianaanderson hit on something there, that part about catching issues before they turn into disasters. That's exactly what happened to me, @rubysingh. I had a job in a basement where the meter showed readings right on the edge of acceptable. I didn't want to believe it at first, but I waited an extra two days before starting and saved myself a call back. Now I'm checking every single slab before I even think about laying anything down. It completely changed how I schedule jobs too, because I build in that buffer time now. Makes me wonder how many problems I missed before by just trusting my gut.

Did that meter save you on any other jobs since then?

Honestly, that meter probably saved them from a bigger headache later on. Nobody talks about how those things can spot issues before they become expensive disasters, like wiring that's about to fry itself. Might've dodged a bullet without even knowing it.

Read @rubysingh asking about that and remembered a contractor forum post saying moisture meters catch 90% of hidden slab issues.
