inHad a post hole digger shear a pin and drop a full load of clay right on my boot in Tacoma last Tuesday.
That "shear a pin" part is the worst. I read once that those shear pins are supposed to be the weak point on purpose, so something cheap breaks instead of wrecking the whole gearbox. Doesn't make it any better when it lets go at the exact wrong second and dumps heavy wet clay on your foot. Hope your boot took the worst of it and your toes are okay. That dense Tacoma clay feels like a bag of cement when it hits.

inChatted with a retired repair guy at the hardware store about those 'universal' dryer belts
Doubt it's that big of a deal tbh.

inMy old phone's battery health hit 78% after exactly 2 years and 1 week
Planned obsolescence gets talked about a lot, but is it really a manual they follow? Batteries are just chemical packs that wear out differently for everyone. Maybe some fail at convenient times by pure luck.

inA pressure test in Phoenix showed me why you can't trust old seals
That's a solid point about the brake system. The cost of a tow and a full rebuild after a failure is way higher than a planned seal change. Some parts are just too critical to risk a visual check alone.
