Celebrating a win: My sister finally enabled two-factor auth on her social media
She always thought it was too much hassle, so I explained how it stops most account hacks. We set it up together last weekend, and she's already used it to block a weird login attempt. Feels good to help family stay safe online without being pushy about it, lol.

Helping family with security is great, but two-factor auth isn't always the best fix. If she loses her phone, she could be locked out of her accounts completely. Plus, some hackers can get around it with SIM swaps or phishing. It's smart to use it, but don't forget about strong passwords and checking login alerts. Security is about layers, not just one tool.

Totally agree about security needing multiple steps. My mom almost got locked out of her email after her phone died, and her backup codes were in a notebook she lost. That's why I set her up with a password manager for strong, unique passwords AND made her print out new backup codes to keep in a safe place. It's not just about 2FA, it's about having a backup plan for WHEN the main method fails. Even something simple like writing down a few recovery codes can save so much headache later. No single tool is perfect, you need the whole system to work together.

Daniel's right about the LAYERS thing. I heard somewhere that SIM swaps are getting more common, so using app-based 2FA instead of SMS can help. But yeah, no single fix is perfect.
