Just realized I was wrong about tempered glass for years

I always skipped tempered glass in small windows to save cash. Figured it was just for big doors or fancy places. Then I saw a kid run into a regular pane and get hurt bad. After that, I started putting tempered in any spot where someone could bump into it. Like in a bathroom or near a play area. Now I tell new guys it's worth the extra cost. Makes me miss the old days when we didn't worry as much, but safety comes first.

Wait, a kid actually ran through regular glass? That's wild lol. I always thought those windows would just crack or something. The idea of it shattering into big sharp pieces is kinda scary when you picture it near a play area. Makes you realize how something simple like glass choice can go wrong fast.

But hold on, is regular glass really the bad guy here? Tempered glass can have its own fails, like spontaneous breakage for no clear reason. Plus, a ton of homes and schools have used regular glass for decades without constant accidents. It's often about teaching kids not to run at windows, not just the material. Blaming the glass lets poor supervision off the hook. Big box stores use it in doors all the time and you don't see a crisis.

That child's accident, noted by @joel_hall17, shows why tempered glass is crucial.
