Appreciation post: My cheap fitness tracker finally died, so I borrowed my friend's Garmin

I wore his Forerunner 55 for a run yesterday and the difference in GPS accuracy was huge (my old one would add almost a quarter mile to every route). Has anyone else made a switch that showed them what they were missing?

Yeah, my old tracker was basically guessing my distance.

Basically guessing" is a bit harsh, they're usually just using step count and an average stride length. That method gets you in the ballpark, but it's definitely not perfect for everyone.

Remember my buddy who swore he ran a 5k every day? His watch used steps too. We mapped his actual route and he was only doing like 2.8 miles. He was so mad, said the thing just made up a number to make him feel good. Totally threw off his training plan.
