My buddy in Boise swore by a 50/50 mix of denatured alcohol and lacquer thinner for cleaning brushes, and after trying it on a stubborn shellac job last week, I'm a total convert.

I was always a mineral spirits guy, but this mix cut through the gunk in my badger brush in about 30 seconds flat, so what's your go-to brush cleaner for the really hard stuff?

It's funny how the best fix is often a weird mix of two normal things.

Ever try cleaning a brush that had dried oil paint in it? I left one for a month and ended up soaking it in Murphy's Oil Soap overnight, then worked it through with a comb. It was a mess but it came back.

Murphy's Oil Soap is a SOLID move, honestly. Did you have to repeat that whole process a bunch of times, or did one good soak really do the trick? I've heard some people swear by mineral spirits for that kind of set-in gunk.
