Watching my son pour his own milk this morning hit me in a quiet way

It's just a small carton and a glass, but seeing him concentrate, his little tongue poking out, he didn't ask for help. I realized he's been doing this for weeks now, and I hadn't even noticed. All those times I rushed to do it for him, thinking he'd spill, and he just quietly learned on his own. It made me think about all the other tiny steps toward independence I might be missing because I'm still seeing the baby. My job isn't just to do things for him, but to step back and watch him learn to do them himself. It's a bittersweet shift, watching them grow up in the quiet moments of a regular Tuesday. What's a small sign of growth you've seen in your kids lately?

It's funny how we can miss the whole story by only looking for the big scenes. Like last week, I found my daughter's lunchbox already packed in her backpack the night before, something I always nagged her about. She'd been doing it for a month. Or the way my youngest now buttons his own coat, fumbling but determined, while I'm already three steps ahead looking for my keys. We're so busy managing the day that we miss the proof they're managing themselves, bit by bit.

Hold on, she'd been doing it for a whole month? That's wild you didn't catch that earlier. It really shows how we get stuck in our own routines and stop paying attention. I bet there are tons of little things like that we all miss every day. Makes you wonder what else we're not seeing right under our noses.

Man, that hits hard because we get stuck in parent mode and forget they're learning. Just last week I saw my kid had already packed his own backpack for school, something I usually rush him about. It's exactly like you said, the proof is right there if we slow down.
