Found an old trail marker in the woods today
Walked the same path by the creek I've used for 5 years. Saw a rusty metal sign nailed to a tree. It pointed to a spring I never knew existed. Everyone else must miss it too, its hidden by new growth. Anybody else find old signs that change your route?

This might sound weird but I found an old boot once with a note stuffed inside it along a trail I'd walked a hundred times. No idea how long it was there or who left it, but now I have this stupid habit of checking every hollow log for messages.

Get a cheap waterproof notepad and a pen that writes in any weather. Stick them in a ziploc bag and keep that in your jacket pocket. Saves you from ruining notes when you find them in damp places.

...and I'd probably be the one to leave a note that says "I was here, got lost, ate a granola bar, and fell asleep" inside a boot, honestly. My luck with finding cool stuff in the woods is basically zero, I just find soggy socks and old soda cans. The spring thing is wild though, maybe it's just me but I'd probably follow that sign and end up in someone's backyard thinking I discovered a secret oasis. I've definitely walked past stuff for years and then one day just notice it like "oh hey, that's been there the whole time".
