Found a box of my grandpa's old fly tying tools in his shed

I was cleaning out his place in Boise and spent a whole afternoon just trying to figure out what half the feathers and furs were for. It made me want to learn how to do it myself, just to feel that connection. Has anyone here tried getting into fly tying recently?

Man, that's such a cool way to remember him.

My grandpa was the one who taught me to tie flies, not my dad. He had this old wooden bench in his garage with jars of feathers sorted by color. I still use his vise, the screw threads are almost worn smooth. It's a good skill to have, and it does make you feel close.

Oh wow, that really hits home. My dad left me his old tackle box, and just holding those worn-out lures makes me feel close to him. Starting with fly tying to connect with your grandpa is a beautiful idea. I hope you give it a shot.
