That thrifted bomber jacket from Savers taught me a lesson about fabric blends last week
Picked up a 90s bomber jacket at Savers in Portland for $12, and the tag said 100% nylon shell. Got it home and realized the lining was 65% polyester and 35% cotton, which made it sweat like crazy in 70 degree weather. Now I check lining fabric before buying any jacket, not just the outside. Anyone else run into this issue with vintage finds?

The lining sniff test! That is something I never would have thought of in a million years. I've been burned by a musty wool blend blazer before, but smelling the fabric before buying never crossed my mind. I usually just poke at the seams to check for dry rot. That's a good tip for next time I'm at the bins.

Yeah, I always flip the lining inside out and give it a sniff test before I even look at the tag now.

That sniff test is honestly underrated, but once you start doing it you can never go back. Flipping the lining inside out is key though, because the outside of a garment can smell fine while the hidden parts trap all that basement funk. Quick question though - do you find the sniff test works better on certain materials than others? Because I swear, polyester linings hold onto smells way harder than cotton or rayon do, and sometimes I think I'm getting a false reading from the synthetic fibers themselves. Just curious if you've noticed the same thing or if I'm overthinking it.
