My uncle told me I was washing my cast iron wrong for years
He said just scrub it with salt and a tiny bit of water, not soap, and now my skillet actually has that nonstick layer everyone talks about after I tried it last week, has anyone else gotten bad advice from family about kitchen stuff?

Tried the salt scrub method last year after ruining a pan with soap. Worked better than I expected. Now I just do a quick salt scrub after cooking bacon or searing meat. Gets all the stuck bits off without stripping the seasoning. My eggs slide right off now. Best kitchen advice I ever ignored for too long.

Your uncle actually gave you solid advice. Salt scrub is the way to go - my grandma used that method for 40 years and her skillet was basically a Teflon pan.
