Shoutout to using a paint roller on popcorn ceilings

My living room ceiling in Phoenix was a mess, flaking off for months. I tried a spray bottle like everyone says, but it just made a soggy patch. Out of ideas, I rolled on a thick coat of ceiling paint with a 3/4 inch nap roller. It sealed the texture down flat and looks great now. Has anyone else tried a method that goes against the usual advice?

Isn't that just asking for a huge crack later on? The spray method exists to stop the old texture from pulling away, and @young.nora's plaster mix sounds like it would dry way too hard. You might have just glued the problem down for the next owner.

Plaster of Paris in the paint? Wild.

Yeah the spray bottle thing never worked for me either, it just made a huge mess. I had the same problem in my old place and got desperate. I ended up using a really thick roller like you did, but I mixed a bit of plaster of paris into the ceiling paint first to give it more body. It went on like paste and locked everything down. Sometimes you just gotta ignore the usual tips and try what makes sense.
