My basement drywall job made me rethink taping vs. mudding first

I always taped the seams before applying any mud, but a contractor buddy told me to put a thin coat down first. Tried it on a 10-foot section and the tape stuck way better with no bubbles. Anyone else switch up their drywall order?

Ever try the prefill method? Works wonders.

Honestly, that prefill trick is a total game changer for corners. I used to fight with tape popping out of inside corners all the time. Now I run a thin bead of mud down both sides, set the tape, and then just smooth it. It locks in place and you get a way sharper line with way less sanding later.

Always thought it was extra work until it saved my last project.
