Remember when you had to buy a local SIM card in every new city just to get online?

Now, after 5 years of moving around, my eSIM plan from Airalo gives me data in Lisbon the same day I land, which completely changed how I handle my first 48 hours in a new place.

Finding a local shop was part of the adventure for me. It forced a real interaction and helped me learn my way around right away. Getting everything online before I land just makes it feel a little less special.

Oh man, I was the queen of that. I'd spend my first afternoon in a new place wandering in circles looking for a phone shop, trying to mime "data plan" to someone. Now I just turn my phone on at the airport and it works, which feels like actual magic.
