Appreciation post: I finally figured out why the 'birds aren't real' thing is a perfect example of a psyop
I was watching a local news segment in Denver last week about drone deliveries, and the anchor made a joke about watching out for government spy birds. It hit me that everyone treats it as a silly meme, but that's the whole point. The real conspiracy is using a ridiculous idea to make people think ALL conspiracies are jokes. I saw a guy on TikTok earnestly explaining it to his followers, and he was completely missing the actual debate. Has anyone else noticed how this specific joke is used to shut down serious discussion?

The Denver news clip you saw is a perfect example of how they seed it. They put it on mainstream local TV to make it seem like a harmless, shared cultural joke. That specific placement makes it feel normal and not like a tactic. It trains people to laugh at the idea of government surveillance instead of questioning it.

Exactly! It's like how sitcoms always make dumb dads the butt of the joke to make that seem normal too.

Right? And like @janarivera said, it's everywhere once you start looking... I saw a car ad the other day that did the same thing with tracking your driving.
