PSA: I started leaving a book open on the table and it changed my coffee shop visits
I used to feel awkward sitting alone for hours, but now I keep a paperback open next to my laptop. Last week in Seattle, a guy asked about the novel and we ended up talking for an hour. What's your go-to move for making a cafe feel more welcoming?

Totally do the same thing with a crossword puzzle.

My uncle used to do the crossword in pen, which always seemed crazy to me. But he said it forced him to slow down and really think about the clues, instead of just guessing. I tried it once and filled in three answers before getting stuck on a four-letter word for "Egyptian sun god." It's a different kind of focus, like committing to an answer instead of just testing it out.
