Barista told me my pour over technique was trash
She said I was pouring too fast and making the water channel through the grounds. Slowed way down to a 45 second bloom and kept the stream thin, now my cups actually taste clean instead of bitter. Anyone else had a coffee shop worker call them out on something?

honestly i think you got played by that barista. like yeah sure slowing down can help but the whole pour over snob thing is so overblown. i've been making drip coffee at home for years and my technique is basically dump water in and hope for the best. tastes fine to me. most people can't tell the difference between a 45 second bloom and a 5 second one in a blind taste test anyway. it's all just gatekeeping by people who want to feel superior about their coffee ritual. you do you and stop letting some hipster in an apron tell you how to live your life.

Oh man, I feel this. @wendy628 I gotta push back a little though. I used to think the same way until a buddy who roasts coffee for a living watched me brew and pointed out my pour was basically hammering the grounds. He had me do the exact thing you did, slow bloom and a thin stream, and it genuinely fixed the bitterness I thought was just "how coffee tastes."
I'm not saying you need a whole ritual, but that 45 second bloom is a legit fix if your cups are coming out harsh. Try it once just to see if you notice a difference, you might be surprised.
