Switched from a french press to a pour over cone last month
I used to make my coffee with a french press every morning for about 3 years. Last month I bought a plastic pour over cone for $12 at the grocery store on a whim. The coffee comes out way cleaner and less muddy, no more sludge at the bottom of my mug. Takes a minute longer to brew but the difference is pretty big. Has anyone else made this switch and stuck with it or went back?

Honestly, the metal mesh cone is the move, that's what I use too.

Stuck with the pour over about two years ago and never looked back. The mud at the bottom of the cup was driving me nuts with the french press, plus I felt like I was always over extracting or under extracting. I got one of those metal mesh cones instead of paper filters, still gives me that clean cup but lets some oils through which I like. Took maybe a week to get the pour timing and water temperature right but now it's second nature. The biggest thing for me was finding a gooseneck kettle at a thrift store for five bucks, that really helped control the flow.

Thrift store gooseneck kettles are a hidden goldmine, got mine for three bucks and it totally changed the pour. People sleep on checking thrift shops for coffee gear, there's always someone giving up their hobby.
