Tried smiling at strangers on the subway for a week straight
Honestly, 6 out of 10 people just stared at me like I was insane, but the other 4 actually smiled back and one lady even started a whole conversation about her cat. Ngl, it made me wonder if we're all just waiting for someone else to break the ice first. Has anyone else had random subway chats actually go somewhere?

Oh man, that's so relatable. I totally get that feeling of being the crazy one for just trying to be friendly. It's honestly kind of sad, isn't it? Like we've all got these invisible walls up, and nobody wants to be the first person to knock on them. I've had a couple of those random subway chats that turned into actual friendships, believe it or not. One time a guy asked for the time, and we ended up talking about his band for like twenty minutes. It's wild how good it feels when you find those few people who are willing to break the ice back at you.

Went to a coffee shop last week and this older lady just randomly started telling me about her cat's surgery while we waited for our orders. I thought she was going to ask for a dollar or something but nope, just wanted someone to hear about Mr. Whiskers getting stitches. She showed me pictures and everything on her phone. Definitely a highlight of my week lol

That's exactly what makes these random chats so special, you know? Mr. Whiskers having surgery is probably the most real conversation you could have with a stranger, and it says a lot about how much people just want to feel seen. There's something really sweet about someone trusting you with their pet drama right off the bat like that.
