Talking to a guy at the hardware store made me switch from a 12-inch knife to a 7-inch for most cuts.

He said, 'You're fighting the tool on those smaller rooms, a shorter blade gives you way more control on the turns,' and after trying it on a 10x12 bedroom in Tacoma, I can't go back.

I always thought bigger was better for drywall, but @ivanross is right, a shorter blade really does give you way more control.

That's a drywall knife, not a kitchen knife.
