A chat with a founder at a coffee shop in Halifax made me see our early days differently
I ran into the founder of a small payments app at a spot on Barrington Street about five years ago. We were both just starting out, and he said, 'We're not just building an app, we're building trust for people who got burned by the big banks.' That simple line stuck with me through all the late nights. It makes you think, what's the one piece of advice from the early days that still guides your work now?

Oh, I know that exact spot. But I have to say, that founder's line always felt a bit off to me. Building trust is the goal of every bank and app, good or bad. The real trick isn't saying you'll build it, it's showing how you'll do it differently. For me, the lasting advice was to always be the most clear, not just the most clever.

Totally get that. A mentor told me to solve the actual problem in front of me, not the fancy one in my head. What early advice stuck with you?
