Warning: a 3-year-old trick with a cheap putty knife just saved a huge maple panel for me last Thursday.

I was about to scrap a $400 slab after a glue-up gap appeared, but I remembered an old timer in Spokane showing me how to shave a sliver from the edge with a sharp putty knife to make a perfect filler wedge, which worked perfectly and saved the piece.

Nice! Old tricks are the best.

It's funny how often the simple, reliable stuff ends up being the answer.

Saved the piece" from what, exactly? Was it really going in the trash over one gap?
