I switched from veneer tape to hot melt glue a year ago and wish I did it sooner

For 6 years I used veneer tape on every cabinet door. You know the drill, wet the tape, wait for it to dry, sand it off. I was spending 20 extra minutes per door just on tape removal. Last year a guy at a supplier in Boston told me to try hot melt glue instead. Now I just shoot it on with a cheap glue gun, trim with a chisel, and sand once. The glue peels off clean in one piece. No more gummed up sandpaper or fuzzy edges. Has anyone else made this switch and found a glue brand that holds better in humid shops?

The glue gun trick works but you gotta watch the humidity thing. I found that with some brands the bond gets weak in summer and the veneer can lift on curved edges. Titanbond 2.0 has been pretty reliable for me in a non climate controlled shop.

You know what, that humidity thing is exactly why I stopped trying to do veneer work in the summer altogether. One time I had this whole bookshelf laid out, looked perfect, and then three days later the edges were all peeling up like bad wallpaper. I switched to using a cold press glue for a while but that takes forever to set. Also your point about Titanbond is interesting because I tried a different brand once that claimed to be moisture resistant but it was total garbage, wouldn't hold a thing after like two weeks. So I just stick with whatever's on sale at the hardware store and cross my fingers most of the time. But yeah, curved edges are the real killer, its like they just want to pop off no matter what you do.
