Warning: I switched from a weekly cash envelope to a digital envelope app for my grocery budget.

I gave myself $150 a week for food, but the cash always ran out by Thursday. After switching to an app that tracks my spending in real time, I've stayed under budget for a full month. Do you think the physical act of handing over cash is a better deterrent, or is the convenience and tracking of an app more effective for sticking to a plan?

My buddy had the same thing with the physical cash. He said watching the number go down in the app made him stop and think before buying snacks every time.

Actually, the app shows the number going down too, just like the cash did.

Used to swear by cash, but seeing that number drop in the app like @tylerj22 mentioned really makes you second guess the extra bag of chips.
